Congratulations! This is the Image of the Week selection for the Wildlife Gallery, week ending 29th October, 2010!Like Paul, I got lucky and found this pair while hiking along the Middle Branch of the Swift River doing some landscape photography. There's a small dam downstream that portends this to be a pond next year. :-)
Image
5D Mark II, 300 f/4, f/8@1/125, ISO 800, HH. I shoot more landscapes and macros and rarely handhold my shots. So I blew it by not getting a bit more of their reflection. After a while, I tripod mounted and got several of the larger preening.

Very nice Steve! You did not blow it at all - the reflection looks just fine to me. Really nice habitat shot.

Steve,

This is a wonderful image, and one any of us would be proud to have in our portfolio.

Best,

There is a nice "crisp" fall feel to this image with all the fallen leaves. Reflection looks good to me! I like the composition using the diagonal bank line.

Hi

Although I would tend to agree that the reflections could ideally have been better placed within the frame, or perhaps even composing around a vertical might have presented more compositional options – this is just a little delight!!!!

A beautiful image

All the best
Matthew

Without a doubt, one of the best Beaver images we have had in the forum Steve!

This is a real beauty of a shot and one that anybody would be proud to have taken. I love it!

Fun shot Steve. As mentioned difficult subject to get in this kind of light and setting. Well done.
