I know. But, what's up with the U.S. dealer reply?

No, the R1800 is not the Epson 2200 replacement. Completely different beast and different type of uses.

Epson supposedly still has the 2200 in stock.

It is, of course, possible that the Epson 2200 has been discontinued but that stores still have them in stock. Like Andy said, the R1800 and 2200 are optimized for different tasks, and in fact use different ink systems. An oversimplified view is that glossy prints turn out better on the R1800 (they are in fact stunning, from what I've seen) whereas matte prints turn out better on the 2200.

Regarding dealer supply, the fact that supply runs low is often poorly correlated with the product being discontinued. If you went to the B&H site, you might conclude that Canon is discontinuing the 35 f/1.4 and the 300 f/2.8 IS, since they've been out of stock for a while. But that's probably not the case.

It is interesting to note, however, that the retail store said they received communication today to say the 2200 is now "discontinued". I'm certain I can buy one somewhere, but I'm thinking I should wait for the inevitable "new" release.

Let's just say that if I were looking for a 2200 type printer, I would wait a short amount of time. Just what a little birdie told me.....

I have no special relationship with Epson, and I am not in the know on their plans, but I can say that logic dictates they couldn't announce and get to market anything before the Photo East show in October. That would be the time and place for such an announcement. And given their track record for announcing as much as two years before a product is available worldwide, I woun't hold my breath on anything right away.

All the dealers I know, say they know nothing about the 2200 being discontinued. Doesn't mean it isn't true and I can't ask B&H until their holiday ends.

I want a 2200 replacement that uses gloss optimizer, and keeps the light black and the straight paper path, and has bigger cartridges than the 1800. Over on dpreview someone said a few months ago Epson would come out with a 2200 replacement later this year. This person predicted the 1800 right (even the name) weeks in advance, so hopefully he is right about the 2200 replacement as well.

The 2400 has been talked about for a year but never announced. No prototype has ever been displayed.
