WILDLIFE GALLERY IMAGE OF THE YEAR
Mountain
Goat at Glacier National Park
Image copyright Karen Schindeldecker

Karen's
interest in photography began in 1980 with a black and white photography
class. She continued to dabble in photography but mainly concentrated
on a career in Veterinary Medicine. Once established in her career in
2000, she began taking images of lighthouses and a variety of ducks. Karen's
interests in wildlife photography have continued to grow from that point
on.
This
mountain goat image was taken in October 2003 at Glacier National Park.
Karen and two of her good friends left early that morning to make the
long drive to Logan Pass and stopped at the visitor's center. From there
they began the long, steep hike up the mountain where they met up with
this mountain goat. He was quite patient with them and they were able
to follow him as he ambled further up the mountain. It was very windy
and cold that day, and after several hours Karen started the hike back
down. Stopping to turn back, she saw this scene and took the photo. It
is one of her favorites because of the beautiful mountain in the background.
