We were camping on the banks of the Zambezi river in the Caprivi at the end of the dry season, and thunderstorms in Zambia started huge veld fires providing a beautiful setting for starscapes. I did quite a few test shots earlier to get the correct exposure and waited for the milky way to align correctly in order to have an interesting composition.
Equipment Used: I used an ISO of 5000 with a 30 seconds exposure at f/2.8 with a Nikon D3s and a 14-24mm f2,8 Nikor lens at 14mm on a tripod with a remote shutter to capture this image.
About the Photographer: I am a maxillo-facial and oral surgeon, but when not in the office or in theatre I spend my time photographing nature and wildlife. I have started my photographic career photographing sport when in high school with a manual 35mm film camera and developed my own slides, acquired a very basic digital kit during my years of study and only recently upgraded to more advanced photographic equipment. I have had had images published in a few magazines and also won a few national awards recently. My images can be viewed at www.natureimages.co.za.
