This image was constructed using one photograph, four times. The original shot of a large leaf was ok, but I didn't get all excited about it. I really liked the lines and textures in the image though, so I started experimenting with it in an effort to create something more interesting. I ended up duplicating and mirroring the shot, which resulted in a fascinating symmetrical image with both natural and unnatural characteristics. Nikon D2X, AF-S 28-70/2.8, 8s @ f/8.0, ISO 100.

About the Photographer

Marsel van Oosten is an award-winning professional nature photographer from The Netherlands. After graduating from the Academy of Arts, he worked as an art director in advertising for 15 years before switching to photography. In his work he tries to simplify, to get rid of the extraneous: simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. His images are noted for his creative use of composition and are used in advertising, design and magazines such as National Geographic and Science Illustrated.
