The Three Peaks and the Milky Way
Image copyright Juza

I had envisioned the scene for a long time, and finally was able to get it in October 2007. Sometimes the sky was cloudy, other times there was the Moon or other lights, so the Milky Way was not visible. Or I was not in the right place, and so on. Finally, a moonless, crystal clear night greeted me. The Three Peaks are a great compositional anchor; even though they are featureless silhouettes, their peculiar shape adds a lot to the photo. I had to frame the photo through the viewfinder; live view does not work in the darkness, it gives just a black image on the LCD screen. Canon EOS 40D, Canon 10-22mm @ 10mm, 30s @ f/3.5, ISO 3200, tripod.

About the Photographer

I live in Italy. Ever since my childhood, I have been fascinated by nature. In 1999 I began photographing nature subjects with a Nikon N60 film camera. Since 2005, I photograph exclusively with Canon digital SLR cameras, and am now a full time professional photographer. My goals - as nature lover and photographer - are to create photos that are both artistically pleasing and valid natural history images.  To see more of my work, please go to http://www.juzaphoto.com.
