Bodie Island Flooded

Bodie Island (pronounced body) is on the Outer Banks, between Nags Head and Hatteras, where
there's another lighthouse, of course.

The Monet exhibit in Raleigh closed last week, so I'm still under its influence, and had to add some
water and colorful reflections to this image. The exhibit was a sell-out, but because of my careful
planning, I managed to get tickets for the last time slot (3-4 am Saturday nite!!!)

I keep wanting to give this a slight CCW rotation as it appears to be leaning to my right........ / ? but that is easily fixed!

This is absolutely beautiful Gary, the colours and light are quite magical. Love it!! 8) :D

Thanks Carol, you have a keen eye!

You know I had that same sensation, but it's actually a perspective effect causing the outside edge to lean in toward the center. The original image, which was taken at 19 mm focal length, includes a lot of clouds which I cropped out of this image. (The tips of the plants at the base lean to toward the center because of the wide angle perspective.)

If you use the marquee tool to put a vertical line down the center of the tip of the lighthouse to the base, it's perpendicular to the horizontals (and to the horizon, but that came from flood!)

I haven't tried using transform/perspective, but just a CCW rotation points the tip of the lighthouse off the vertical.

You will note I did say ''appears'' to be leaning  I appreciate the eye can be fooled by the content of the composition. 8)

I thought the plants at the base of the LH were leaning over to the left because they were being blown in the wind! :D

:) Good points! As a result of your stimulating comments, I just realized another reason that the eye is tricked, is that the horizon appears to run downhill from left to right. The actual horizon line is pretty much hidden in the dark tones --- I've run a line across it in the pic below (maybe a more subtle form would help prevent viewers getting a kink in the neck!)

The line formed by the lower edge of the reflections of the large mass of plants on the right running to the smaller plants on the left creates the impression of a bogus vanishing point on the left, and may make one feel that the vanishing point for the lighthouse should be a bit to the left as well, rather along a vertical (or so it seems to me!)

Thanks! :)
