We got a hard rain with great clouds for a little while last Friday so I wanted to see what was happening at Mono Lake. The rain had stopped but there were a few nice clouds still around so I spent a couple of hours shooting tufa formations and enjoying the scent of wet sage.

Great landscape, even without the water! I've heard that the water levels have dropped in recent years. True?

Many years ago, the City of Los Angeles diverted the streams running into Mono Lake into a pipeline to serve the L.A. area. The lake level dropped drastically. In the 70's a lawsuite gave some of the water back to the lake and subsequently the waters have been rising again and streambeds have been refurbished.
This is the short story - I don't have room here, nor the time, to tell the whole story!

Like it. The clouds appear as if they are coming from smokestacks. Feels a bit dark, as the shadows could use more recovery.

I like it because there is no water. Maybe just a tad dark?

Certainly a different Mono Lake image...nice.
I'd also be tempted to lift the exposure a bit in this case.
