I've decided on the D800E over the D800 and am ready to buy but I can't find one. Are there any tips to finding one? I'd prefer to stay with the more reputable places like B&H, but I haven't seen one available on the B&H website ever. I have a weeks vacation coming up in two weeks and I'd love to have it by then, but so far the odds don't looks good.

I got a D4 and a D800 from NIkon USA's webstore. They don't have a waiting list but I kept checking the website regularly and got both while all the online retailers still have huge waiting lists.

I put an order for a D800E in with Hunts (I've had a great working relationship with them for years and have dealt with them pretty much exclusively for everything from camera bodies to ink cartridges since 2006 or thereabouts) eight days ago. Gary Farber told me that they'd get me one ASAP, but they were forthright--they really had no way to know when that would be. I trust them implicitly and I'm sure they'll get one to me as soon as one comes in, but I'm not under any illusions that it will be any time real soon. (They also mentioned that a regular D800 would almost certainly be available before an "E" model version.)

Best of luck on your search.

I've checked Hunts website a number of times but I haven't called them yet. I'll give that a shot tomorrow...

Robert's Camera (formerly Robert's Imaging) has 800's and MB-D12 grips in stock as of today.

Yes, 800's are no longer that hard to find. D800E's are a completely different matter though! And spare batteries are still unobtainium.

Well I think I'll just hold out for the D800E, tempting though the D800 is now that it's somewhat available. I'll also be getting the Sigma 150 Macro.

I was a tad tempted by the Craigs list one but I do not like buying from Ebay or similar if I can avoid it particularly if they come with a multi-hundred dollar premium.

So, if anyone here's of a D800E at B&H, Hunts, Adorama, etc -- please PM me...
