Spotted this moose grazing in the woods at the base of the Gulf of Slides ski trail in the Mount Washington range of New Hampshire. It's not easy chasing a moose around through the woods, although the moose didn't seem to have any problem even though on all fours it stood taller than me. Finally got this shot in a semi-clear opening of the woods. Still too much clutter for a perfect image, but it's not often that I've been able to get this close to a moose in its natural surroundings. This was the best full size shot (with legs), while I also got a couple of good close-up portraits.

A shame the moose has lost a hind leg and the harsh light has resulted in a contrasty image but I'm sure the thrill of seeing one of these magnificent animals at close quarters has given you a great memory - if not a great shot!

Hard to do much better in this kind of setting and light. I'd prefer a little more space all around if you could do that here.

The harsh light and clutter definitely takes away from this one. But often this is all we get to see of a moose... just a glimpse in the brush! Hope you get another chance on this one!

I"m glad you were a safe distance from this massive beast Bruce, though of course the branches prevent full view. Hope you have a better opportunity the next time out!
