Awesome formations Martynas -- dramatic sky and nice use of B/W too! What is the location?

Great textures. It might be the wave itself but the sky looks like it does not belong with this image.

Perfect in black and white - it makes the image very much about the textures and lines. I love it.

The surrealism is well captured and defined by this image.

The Wave is located in the Vermillion Cliffs National Monument, near the Utah and Arizona border (you actually enter in Utah and end up in Arizona at the end of hike). Is approximately 15 miles hike trough the open desert over the buttes (and yes Santa Fe Joe - Coyote Buttes are on the way to it) and there is no formal trail to The Wave. Is probably one of the best hikes I ever did - scenery is just breathtaking. Though is not so easy to get the permission for a hike - they give a total of 20 per day. 10 are given on online lottery (6 months before the day you want to hike; for summer months there are up to 300-500 people entering for those 10 permissions) and another 10 are given in lottery, which takes place in Kanab, UT - every morning at 9AM (for the next day). We were truly lucky and won the lottery on our second try :)

Thanks to all for the comments! And Darren - it does belong, but I agree in small size image it looks a bit odd, just you must understand I didn't do the B&W conversion for the small 800px image. It looks perfectly fine large.

Thanks for the additional information Martynas -- I'm glad you were lucky, though a 15 mile hike is a bit much!!!

Wonderful capture. Did you come in form Wire Pass? I don't remember the hike being 15 miles but whatever, it is worth it and your BW version is stunning.

Beautiful patterns and I like the BnW conversion you've done.

Perhaps just a touch darker in the midtones might make this better than it already is. :)

Really dig it. I knew you needed a permit, but didn't know it was so difficult, or so far a hike. The clouds really make the image, and like the b&w conversion a lot.

Thanks! Yes we started from Wire Pass. And yes if you just go straight to the Wave and back is maybe half of that in total (~ 8 miles), but if you continue (and I recommend that and explore behind and above is what I said. And once you are there (with permission so tricky to get) - is good idea to explore the area. There are very neat formations and views aside the wave.:)

Lucky you!! Some try for years and never succeed. This is a lovely presentation; did you do it in color too?
