Navajo Power

While outside of Page, Arizona, I was just along a edge of a storm. There were dark clouds in the background and full sun in the foreground. I could see the smoke plumes of the coal fired Navajo Generating Station from miles away. I'd like to think that most of that exhaust is water vapor. The road back to Utah I was traveling went right by the power plant.

Very dramatic image Jerry -- I'd like to think it's mostly water vapor too (but of course nasty stuff like lead and mercury most likely wouldn't be visible even at highly toxic levels.)

The symmetry is really great, as stated, and the brooding and ominous skies add a cool backdrop! There is an article in today's local paper about the Navajo Generating Station, stating that each year it dumps about 100,000 tons of nitrogen and silver pollution and carcinogens and neurotoxins like mercury, lead, nickel and chromium into the air! Sorry if I burst your bubble!

I know it has been a decades long battle to get plants to install more equipment to reduce pollution.

Compelling image that is enhanced by the way you captured the symmetry.

Nasty to spew such chemicals anywhere but some minor improvement when the population is spread. A couple incinerator plants remain in Chicago area and of course they are in poor areas with less political will to end them.
