I called Apple they sent me a return lable & new Yellow-PAD is out for an exchange.
They said that as soon as Fed-Ex scans in the lable that they start the process & send out the new one on the same day!
They have a reserve set aside for returns/exchanges as they have priority over new orders.

So I threw the dice. Let's see in a few days how I do.

PS: If you're not sure of the yellow cast just try to look at some B&W images!

Well the 4x resolution is nice but the colors are awful in comparison to earlier models. The iPad and iPad 2 had a screen that was nearly perfectly calibrated. The iPad 3 screen has an ugly yellow cast. Pictures may be higher resolution but the color is nowhere near as good. I first read about a "slight warming" of the palette in MacWorld but they aren't critical photographers. I find the color rendition when placed next to the old screen ugly!

It is also significantly dimmer for the same brightness setting.

It is noticeably heavier and thicker

I thought you avoided being a beta tester for new products? :D

My initial color temp reading of white on the iPad 3 was 4400K. After 5 days it was 5200K. Then I decided to let a hot blow dryer blow on the screen for 20 minutes and now the temp is 5500K. So there is something to be said for letting the adhesive dry. It will be interesting to see if it can get to the 6000K that the iPad 2 was.

Has anyone had the problems with overheating or difficulty charging? I am interested in buying one but after these posts and other reports I am hesitant to go ahead now.

No problem with overheating or charging? Here's a Mac World article on it:

I wonder how color-stable this adhesive goo will be over time, with this sort of drastic effect at the beginning of the life cycle. Of course, these consumer devices have a pretty short lifespan and probably most purchasers won't notice the changes anyway...

But it does bring a few nifty new initial steps to calibration, if this type of manufacturing process starts getting used more commonly.

Congratulations on purchasing your penultimate super new iPhoad 7.5sq Xtreme limited edition(TM) with iZeus display. The new iZeus technology is designed to give you a level of N-dimensional display perfection that rivals -- if not exceeds -- the sight capability of a god! And it better, because you have to be as rich as Croesus and Midas combined, to afford one!

Along with its internal use of penultimate super new Thunderbolt NG^2 for lightning fast refresh speed, the iZeus display supports the new iMjölnir calibration technology to ensure that you get the absolute pinnacle of N-dimensional display perfection. If you don't understand what any of this means, don't worry -- it's cool! Trust us, you definitely want it!

To use iMjölnir to calibrate your penultimate super new iPhoad 7.5sq Xtreme limited edition(TM) with iZeus display, please follow these simple steps.
  1. Preheat your iOven (not included) to 450 degrees F.
  2. While the iOven is pre-heating, use an iHammer (not included) and strike the surface of the penultimate super new iPhoad 7.5sq Xtreme limited edition(TM) with iZeus display. This will disengage the shipping seals and allow the unit to oxygenate.
  3. When the iOven has reached 450 degress F, place your penultimate super new iPhoad 7.5sq Xtreme limited edition(TM) with iZeus display on the middle oven rack.
  4. Bake for 15 minutes, or until surface is clear with no trace of yellow color cast. When you insert and withdraw an iToothpick (included), it should come out clean.
  5. After your penultimate super new iPhoad 7.5sq Xtreme limited edition(TM) with iZeus display has cooled to normal room temperature (you can check this with your iThermometer [not included]), activate the iMjölnir app using your me-myself-and-iCloud account.
  6. Run the iMjölnir app, and just do what it tells you. Don't worry, you can't make any mistakes while using iMjölnir, because we don't actually give you control over anything. Trust us, we know how to make this stuff work!
  7. When the iMjölnir app finishes running, you can now use your penultimate super new iPhoad 7.5sq Xtreme limited edition(TM) with iZeus display in the full confidence that you are seeing the best N-dimensional display in the history of the universe! It's cool, and It Just Works! Trust us!
  8. And if it Just Doesn't Work, don't worry. Repeat step 2 several times.
  9. If it still Just Doesn't Work, don't worry. The ultimate hyper newer iPhoad 8sq Xtreme unlimited edition(TM) with newer iZeus display 2 and newer iMjölnir 2 calibration will be out next year, and it will be even better! So much better, we're going to make sure you upgrade all your apps since the old ones won't be any good on this awesome cool new device! Trust us, you're definitely going to want one!

Is it 6200 right when you turn it on or after a period of time?

I could not wait & returned my iPad to Apple and while waiting for an
exchange via Apple on Aprli 2nd I decided to try my luck at Best Buy
and bought another 64GB Verizon 4G and believe it or not this one has a
magenta cast to it! Purple Skies anyone?

So for three days straight it has been on full brightness and on a blank white google page
and I have not seen one iota of improvement, I guess a magenta color cast is a flaw and not part of the
"glue" drying problem.

I will compare it to iPad #3 in a week & if it too has a problem I will wait a few months before I try again.
Thanks for sharing,
Michael W.

Clearly color accuracy and repeatability was not a priority for Apple :)

Heh, I had no intention of buying an iPad 3 anytime soon, but we had to replace my wife's car and the dealership had a promo where you got a free iPad with a used car purchase. It was an iPad 2 but it had a gift receipt from Best Buy so I swapped it out for a 16GB WiFi iPad 3. I've noticed the same magenta cast (especially in comparison to the white bezel), if it was yellow I would be less worried (my iPhone 4S had the adhesive yellow cast that went away after a week).

I still prefer the previous but it isn't horrific now like it was when i first go it. magenta tones still seem oversaturated but the yellow issue is better.
