Any suggestions to recover music and photo files from a reformatted external portable wd hard drive used on a vista computer. The drive was accessed after the reformat but not written to it.

Any of the rescue programs out there should work for an external drive. As long as nothing was written to the drive everything should be recoverable.

I used an utility from EASEUS and also another one, MiniTool. Both works. EASEUS is more generic. MiniTool can recognize Canon/Nikon raw files and work pretty good.

Thank you Greg and penghai. Anyone with experience with the program Recuva I found recommended in a computer magazine? It comes in a free version and a paid version that includes support.

The free versions of EASEUS and minitool are limited to 1-2 GB of data recovery. The free version of Recuva handled my larger project.
