Open wingspan ~ 40mm. Has become quite a scarce butterfly in the UK.

Nice one! Great to get close - I wasn't quite so lucky last year.
Whitecross Green Wood for this one??

Congrats on the find and this capture - a lovely species, fine feeding pose and sharpness.

Hi

Sadly an aspect that seems common to most of our butterflies – last year alone our common species were down in numbers, while rare species have seen a 90%plus decline in some cases in the last ten years.

A nice shot btw – a great subject perch combination and a lovely active pose.

Regarding suggestions – I would probably have considered mixing ambient and flash in this lighting situation, lifting the shadow some

Thanks for sharing
Matthew

Thanks for all your feedback and Adrian for your comments about my website. Also to Matthew re the pointer on lifting the shadows, I’m toying with the idea of a ring flash.

CatusD, it was taken at Otmoor RSPB reserve along the Roman Rd.

Cheers,
