Heir To The Throne

I have been busy with life lately and have not been shooting as much as I would like. I did manage to slip out yesterday to shoot one of my favorite subjects, the great horned owl. This little owlet, if it lives long enough, will inherit the throne at the top of the avian food chain. I have been monitoring this nest for four months in hopes that the cycle of life would once again produce it's miracle.

Wonderful photo , Steve, and I like what you did with it. Priceless expressions! The textures suit this scene very well. It must be thrilling to see this family in action as well- Great Horned Owls are rare around here.

Great shot. I wonder how the original looks. Your experience with them is priceless.

The original is cool, but I just wanted to play with it Steve. By the way, I stayed at a motel that you own last year. Your photos were all over the lobby. I think it was in Wyoming.

Cynthia, I just made a trip up to Rhode Island and tried to shoot snowy owls up there. I found one but it was too far away to photograph. I had to travel to Seattle a month ago and planned on taking a few days to shoot the snowy's but the big snow storm hit the day I got there. I would gladly trade all my great horned shots for a chance to shoot snowy owls.

Sweet capture and nice treatment - not too much to spoil the original mood! Let's hope the young prince makes it!

Sweet image -- I might be inclined to clone out the branch behind the owlet. A beauty.
