If I understand the press release properly, you can shoot up to 8FPS with no blackout!

By the time Cyber Monday rolls around in November you will be able to buy it for $600 ;)
In the meantime, you can get an a6000 which is an awesome camera and this camera's predecessor for $450 and that will probably come down.

The 6300 seems to have better construction than the 6000, so maybe its price point will be higher.  All metal construction cost more than plastic.  Has the viewfinder been upgraded to the nex7 specs or has the no blackout caused it to keep the low resolution VF?

It's upgraded to something like 2.4M dots at 120hz refresh, that's double the a6000

I thought that FE mirrorless lenses were meant or  had the potential to be lighter than the DSLR equivalent.  It certainly isn't the case with the two zoom lenses just announced both heavier than the Canon equivalent.
All comments & suggestions welcomed and appreciated.

Good that they keep expanding the lens lineup and introduce what probably is supposed to be the equivalent of Canon's L-glass... Although there is nothing of interest to me in this release and I am wondering a bit about why they go directly against the 85 mm Batis lens... Okay, it's 0.4 stops brighter but...

Like Andy I had hoped/expected that lenses could be smaller/lighter for mirrorless but that doesn't appear to be the case. Bummer.

I believe that Full Frame lenses have to be about the same size and weight in DSLRs as on mirrorless as they need to cover the same circle of image. At equal sensor format, the only weight savings in mirrorless vs. DSLR are in the camera body.

If you want to go mirrorless to save weight and size in the lenses, then do not buy a Sony A7 system. Go for smaller format mirrorless like APS-C or M4/3 where the weigh savings are notorious.

Wonder how it will perform with a Canon lens? On paper faster AF than the A7r2.

I am not sure that is entirely true. Leica M glass is definitely smaller (may not be that much lighter) for full frame sensors. The Sony 35mm 2.8 is really tiny and the RX1R2 has a 35mm f2 that is fixed but quite small in size.

My Sony 16-35 is smaller and lighter than my  Canon L version (both have the same aperture), the Sony 24-70 is half the weight of the Canon (granted it is one stop slower).

I think it depends upon the aperture and the focal length, some being easier to manufacture in smaller size. However, it is also I believe up to the manufacturer as to how small and light (keeping the same image and build quality) they can make it.

At long focal lengths the laws of physics determine the size to a greater extent.

Some great info in the Sony Presser... (they even take a little shot back at Nikon after the Nikon jab a few weeks ago in their D5 Presser) :D
There is even a technical segment:

AF is done on sensor.  That is only needed when the AF module is in a different place than the sensor as it is on a DSLR.  Mirrorless cameras focus on the sensor plane so it is not necessary.

HUGE difference between the new 24-70 f/2.8 GM and the original 24-70 f/4 in size.  Also the f/2.8 weighs about 2.2 times as much:

PDAF and contrast AF are both built into the sensor, so it should not be necessary.
