I've had the Gitzo GM5561T 6X Carbon Fiber 6 Section Series 5 Traveler Monopod for 3 years now (lost the previous one).  Thing works smooth and well.  The key is to close down all the leg sections for storage after use.  Closed, no leg sections are exposed.

Somehow, I did not close it this time and one of the sections unscrewed when in the trunk.  No problem.  Just twist the thing back onto the threads.  No go.  It only went onto the threads so far before it stopped.  I'm thinking maybe it's bent somehow. Thinking it'll have to be sent in for repair or lube the threads with some grease and see how that goes.

Playing around with the section of the monopod and that leg section comes completely loose and 2 white plastic pieces fall out.  OK, I'm worse off than a minute ago. Not really. Figured out how to wrap these 2 plastic pieces around the monopod leg.  Finally, the leg screws back onto the threads properly.  So, if this ever happens to your Gitzo Carbon Fiber monopod.
