My new Canon 100-400mm IS II lens arrived today, along with a Canon 1.4TE III.  The lens seems very quick & delivers great images with my 5D Mark III camera body.  However, despite assurances on amazon, etc, it will not autofocus with the 1.4TE III attached.  Any thoughts on what might be wrong?

Any chance you are behind on your firmware updates? Support for center point AF at f/8 was added in version 1.2.1 in April 2013.

If an f/5.6 lens + 1.4x does not attempt to autofocus with the center AF point, you need to update the firmware.  If with the latest firmware it still doesn't AF and everything is set-up properly on the camera and lens then there is something broken.
