I'm thinking about getting one of these for someone (xmas) but do not know anything about them.  Is there one that stands out for those of you who use/have used them?  Thank you,

When needed (e.g. for critical focusing), I simply use the magnifier on my swiss army knife.

The Hoodman loupe is outstanding! It magnifies and shades the LCD from reflections, especially in bright light outdoors. It can be used alone or with an attachment that mounts in the flash shoe or with a strap to hold it in place. The shading from reflections can't be overlooked as a great benefit.

Many of my clients have the Hoodman around their necks at all times.

I have the Hoodman loupe too. It's invaluable for checking the LCD screen in bright light situations.
