Hi all

I'm sure many of you will say that you do not own such a big laptop :p

But I've been looking around for both backpacks and messenger bags that can carry such laptop and the options are not that many. I've searched Crumpler, Timbuk2, ThinkTank and LowePro and a few more. I'm not looking for a big backpack, but just something big enough to accommodate the laptop, maybe a medium camera and a couple books. Not necessarily a photo equipment bag.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

I would say the ThinkTank Urban Disguise 50. I myself have gone to using a 13" Macbook Pro which fits very nicely in an Urban Disguise 40.

"Shoulder camera bag and laptop bag that carries a gripped or standard DSLR with a standard zoom lens attached, plus 2–4 additional lenses, and has a separate padded compartment for up to a 15.4” laptop."

Not big enough for a a 15.6” :(

But overall much bigger (and expensive) than what I would like to find.

I would give the dimensions of your laptop to Greg and have him measure the bag. A 0.2" diagonal measurement is certainly not a lot. The price, unfortunately, is all photo bag pricing. The problem is that the bag size, and laptop size, doesn't conform with the current "US airline" restrictions properly for a "personal bag" sized item. That size won't fit any 15" laptop, which is why I've been using the 13" variant for several years.

Of course, some people still use 17" laptops. I believe that Think Tank's largest Urban Disguise will fit that laptop...

A quick search of Mountain Equipment Coop's website came up with the above three and more. I am sure there are others out there. Is this the sort of thing you are looking for?

This one from Case Logic is $50 US.  Holds the 15.6 laptop.  I find the 15.6 a good size balance between the 17 (too big) and the 13 (too small for my aging eyes).

I have a Kata DB455. It's a computer shoulder bag, but it's amazing the amount of gear I've thrown in there. Nikon 200-400, two camera bodies, chargers, TC and so on(and laptop of course). It looks like a typical laptop bag so it never gets a second look on air travel, but it's been wonderful to fly with.

Can you get all that camera gear in there at once? If so, I could use a bag like that.

Roberta, you can barely get all of your gear in a Subaru Outback... with the seats all folded down... :D

E.J., you forgot to mention the roof box that went on top of my old 2003 Outback.

I am running into the problem of getting all my gear in the car right now as I pack up for an upcoming shoot. And now it is worse as I am in a Subaru Forester, smaller than my old Outback - and with more lenses than I had before.:)

But when I fly, very sadly I have to pare down from what I can cram in a Subaru. Sneaking a couple of bodies and a big lens in my laptop bag without arousing suspicion really appeals to me as I don't do well when it comes to paring down. (In my own defense, though, I will say that when you saw my Subaru it was packed for a trip of a few months duration so had all my food, camping gear, clothes to cover several seasons etc as well as camera gear.)

Anyway, seems the Katak DB455 has been discontinued. And just after I watched a video about it that convinced me I should consider getting one.

Thanks everyone.

For the record the laptop is a Toshiba Satellite S50-B-11W (38 x 26,2 x 2 cm - roughly
14.96" Wide x 10.32" Deep x 0.79" Thick).

I would be extremely happy with something like this (only a slightly bigger).

I'm very pleased with my Timbuk2.  I use it for business mostly.  The Joey device can come in handy as well. This should fit.
