I have just return from a three week photo trips during which my tripod mounted 1Dx and 500mm tipped over and fell onto some rocks.  The rear LCD of the 1Dx taking pretty all of the impact.  The camera still works but the rear LCD is toast and there is a crack in the body to the left of the LCD.

I'll be taking this body to Canon on Monday to get it fixed but was hoping that someone on here might be able give me a ballpark figure of what this might cost to repair.  I'm guessing its not going to be cheap!!

Cheers

Andy

I tipped my rig over a week and a half ago in Costa Rica on my last morning. Hit on the rear. Armoring on back below lcd was torn and the 2X broke off of the body. The lens mount on the body needed replacing as well as the armoring. Total with Gold 20% discount was approx $865. Fine by me as I was concerned it might be more. The 2X which looks perfect other than the mounting flange was another story. They used to have a fixed price to repair these but this time they wanted over $400 to repair. I opted for a new one instead for an additional $35 so I have a new one with warranty and extra caps etc. Couldn't see spending 90% the value for a repair. Good news was it round tripped in 3 working days.

First, join Canon Professional Services.  Register your gear.  The LCD alone is about $500 US, less the CPS discount.

Thanks for the info. Pretty sure my lens mount is fine but rear armour will need replacing and the LCD screen and the rear LCD.  I had read somewhere that just the rear LCD screen cost $400-500 to replace.

Steve

CPS is quite different here in Europe which I am a member of. There is no discount count scheme or anything just a faster repair service which is suppose to be three days but they always take longer in my experience. Membership is free it just depends on the equipment you have to which membership status you qualify for.

As mentioned above I had read that just replacing the rear LCD screen costs around $500!! I need the whole LCD replaced including the screen.

Now why on  Earth would CPS be so different in Europe??  Either this paid membership works with discounted repairs or it doesn't. That's a bummer for you Andy and others in Europe. But Being a CPS member here in the US can mean the difference between scrap and back to business. I have had a couple of repairs that I was sure would cost me 4-5000 dollars, but with my platinum membership were under $400! Unbelievable. Plus two day turnaround. So the cracked body is the main body? That sounds worse than the LCD fix.

***Just checking current CPS levels and their benefits it seems if my memory is correct, is that they have changed the structure of the tiers. Platinum used to be as high as it went and was $500/year and 40-60% repair discount(I think), now however it is $300 dollars and a 30% discount. But then there is this $1000 cinematic tier now. I like the old tier system paying the greater $500, but having a much greater discount on repairs. There is also this enterprise level now. If we could all join under that as a group wouldn't that be a huge benefit for all!

Yeah the system here in Europe is not so great. I'm guessing this repair could cost me an arm and a leg to get fixed.

The body is cracked next to the HDMI port.
