I described my troubles before, regarding my 580 EX flash unit in details.
I just got a replacement after I managed to talk to the receptionist lady at Canon Services, who had known me for some time.
She immediately talked to the manager on my behalf and got authorized to buy a brand new replacement unit.
It is the newest 600-EX-RT. It looks pretty good. It feels heavier and it is larger.
It came with a "novel" size manual that I will have to read.
The good thing is that I could set the flash for my purpose in no time.
Anyway, all is good if the end is good.

Glad to hear Canon Canada stepped up to the plate for you Karl. It was the right thing for them to do.

Great that all worked out for you Karl and great that you shared so others know how Canon treats their customers.

It's always best to stay on the good side of receptionists... ;) I imagine you gave her your profuse thanks?

Hy Gary,

Of course I gave her a call and thanked for her being so great.
A lot depends on the receptionists as they are the people you have contact with.
She is a real nice person.
