The LCD's on my Canon 1Ds3 and 1D4 both have a couple of "dings" on them, more chips than scratches. (Happens if you carry them far enough with enough obstacles around.) I'm wondering whether it's possible and/or recommended to try and replace them yourself or whether it's best to send them in to Canon for service? Thanks in advance for any thoughts or suggestions.

Sounds like back yard brain surgery. Needed tools: chain saw and an ice cream scoop.

If its just the outer protective cover over the actual LCD screen. Here's a how to video on accomplishing the task. Pretty sure the parts can be purchased relatively affordable.

Thanks Toney. I had seen the video but hadn't found the replacement part location. Did have to chuckle on the back yard brain surgery. Before starting to research the possibilities, the range of alternatives went from "piece of cake" to "brain surgery." Having Canon replace both would run over $600 counting postage so I think try back yard brain surgery! ;)

Your welcome Rich. I really think the biggest issue here is finding a clean enough location to preform the task so dust doesn't adhere to the LCD before affixing the new cover.
