I bet the video industry is very excited about this new camera. Come on folks, let's stop being so old school. Let the new generation fly!

I'm sure it is cool if serious video is your thing, but at 15K it is definitely a niche product, and personally I'd like to see a little more effort on the stills side. There are lot's of things that can be done there, and we're just getting the same old thing IMO.

Yeah it seems that Canon has all but abandoned still photography development in any meaningful way to me too.

Abandoned might be a little strong, but overall I agree. In the stills area they have ceased to amaze me (compared to competition) in a long while. Some bean counter type senior manager must have convinced them that there are better profits to be made in video, or other areas. We'll see, I guess.

A 4K video camera that's $15K is going to make a bunch on Indie types very happy. Canon may be the first at 4K but I suspect within a couple years all the high end DVSLR's will be 4K capable and a couple years after that the mid range cameras will also boast 4K. I'd expect to see some 4K EHDTV's before long as well. We went more than half a century in the USA at 525 line and now that 1080 is the norm for most we may see it end in less than 20 years.

Agreed completely. I'm sick and tired of still photography taking a backseat to video in DSLRs. I'm fine with video being in cameras but it seems like they are more interested in a video camera that does still photography than a still camera that does video.

Doug

I really don't like the idea of mixing still and video in one box.
Canon is making the DSLR a video tool since the launch of 5D2 and with great success too to say the least.
I agree with what EJ said ...

Just hope that Nikon isn't following the same path.

That is an interesting read. It is odd they would create a $15,000 camera and not have professional standard sound jacks. Though I really don't even know why a jack is a problem that warrants criticism...more an observation that in such an expensive camera with so many pro features - targeted specifically at pros - it has "consumer grade" audio jacks.
Cheers,
Doug

Kind of like creating a professional still camera without a direct MLU control ;)

I would imagine that anyone doing professional video, or even someone that just wants top quality, wouldn't even consider recording the audio into the camera. It's likely to be recorded separately using dedicated audio recording equipment.
