Ladies and Gentlemen:

For those of you interested in purchasing gimbals, the latest issue of Shutterbug Magazine has an article on
what the author thinks are the best 5 gimbals. Although the article may be substantially subjective, some
of you may find it useful.

Best regards,

Roman :D

Dear E.J.

I am at work at this point preparing for depositions beginning on Monday and running through Friday. Consequently, I do not have the article in front of me now. However, I remember the names of four of the five gimbals the author evaluated. Those four are Custom Bracket, Wimberley II, Jobu, and ProMedia (Katana model). Surprisingly to me, the author did not mention the new RRS gimbal.

Best regards,

Roman :D

Nothing against the folks that write for Shutter Bug, but I'd trust the opinions of the folks here more

I might just have to take a gander at this article. I'm sorta considering a Wimberley mk2 or the Induro GHB2 (is it the same as the Benro?). Not sure which one though...

The fifth make of Gimbal mentioned in the Shutterbug article is manufactured by Rob Pleas Photography.

Best regards,

Roman :-)

It's an article worth reading. He really doesn't rate the gimbals but does a good job describing the various features of the different units. Quite nicely done.

Hmm interesting discussion and timely for me since I am trying to decide what to use. I looked at the ones in the post above and I think the CB is the most interesting one for me. The Promedia is too heavy...the Rob Pleas is a homemade version. Jobu is great too as is Wimberly, but probably need redesign in the current age.

I've got the RRS Gimbal head and it is terrific with my Nikon 600 f/4 AFS as well as other gear. The RRS head packs nicely as it breaks down into three pieces. The head can also be reconfigured for use as a pano head. Workmanship is first rate with the typical RRS finish - nice contours and impeccable finish and machining

Shutterbug is an annoying site I just discovered. Pop ups blocked my view so much I simply bailed.
