Wimberly or Really Right Stuff Flash brackets

Hey all, I'm kinda at a cross roads deciding on which flash bracket to go with. I already use a Wimberly mount for my 500mm and have looked at the Wimberly F-1 Telephoto Bracket. I just recently looked at the Really Right Stuff B-Series Flash Brackets. I was just wondering if any one out there has any pro's or cons in comparison issues. Price is not the issue. Thanks for any feed back anyone might have.
Thanks
Harry

I am probably one of the world's biggest advocates of RRS products but IMHO, the Wimberley modular flash bracket system is vastly superior to any other on the market. The modularity which makes the system adaptable to virtually any situation can not be beat.

If you ever want to use a flash hand held with the flash above the camera, the RRS flash is the best for this. The ability to change the position on the arc is wonderful for hand held photography. The bracket also doubles as a long lens bracket.

That said, I currently have another solution for hand held photography that doesn't require a bracket. That means the last few times I got a bracket out, it was the Wimberley bracket, not the RRS one.

I have both!

I prefer the RRS for handheld shooting and macro work as it pairs really nicely with the 24ex flash. When I got the RRS bracket I thought it would replace the Wimberley for use with my supertels but after using it on several outings I quickly switched back to the wimberley when shooting with my 500/600 lenses.

Key advantages:

1) size/weight -wimberley breaks down into smaller pieces and is easier to travel with. I have my BB, flash, bracket in a waist pack that I like to have with me when hiking or shooting close to the car. The RRS bracket is heavier and bulkier.

2) Better setup with Wimberely II -I like the positioning of the special bracket that attaches to the wimberley mount and the various options you have in customizing the setup ie using an extension post or angling the flash out and then up when shooting from a blind.

This article has some great info and pics on different setups http://www.naturescapes.net/Joomla1.5/i ... an-wegener

Hi - I have both by default. I do not really like using the RRS flash bracket as it does not provide enough distance from the lens axis for the flash (for the type of shooting I'm currently doing). Both companies produce superior products that are well designed, have excellent construction and are exceptionally robust.

I recently decided to go with Wimberley and am VERY happy with their flash brackets.

The Wimberly M6 macro bracket is a marvel to use - It does not move once tightened to the L-plate mo matter how far out from the camera body you set the speed light.

I also use the F1 bracket which is equally as good.

Why not trial them as Wimberley have a 60 day free trial on their products.

Good luck....Iain

Hey thanks all for your input it is well taken. I believe I might go with the Wimberly since everybody seems to lean in that direction and well, not to mention their business is right north of me in Virginia. Thanks again for all your input...Harry

Ask about their 60 day use and return policy if your a bit concerned which route to take. I'm pretty sure Wimberley still offer it. best...Iain
