Brown Hairstreak female

The female has richer colouring than the male as can be seen when compared to example of the male posted over the weekend.  A small butterfly prone to bird strikes or predatory insects and quite often seen missing the tail streamers on the hind wings.  With the naked eye I thought she was in quite good condition but later in PS noted the top of her right antennae had been nipped off.

Lovely photograph of a beautiful butterfly - despite the nipped antenna. Fine perch as well.
