In this photograph I have used the field studio technique as described by the Meet your neighbors project - two flashes set of simultaneously (one to set the back lightning and one to enlighten the subject) and the moth placed on a piece of opaque acrylic.

The Small Elephant Hawk-moth (Deilephila porcellus) was caught in a light trap for moths and after the photo session it was again dreleased to freedom.

Nikon D700, 105/2.8, f/36, 1/80, ISO 200, two SB900 flashes, opaque acrylic and diffusors.

I'm not too keen on the hi-key setting on this one Daniel - but that's just my personal taste. I do like that we can always rely on you for a different approach!

The moth looks great - lots of DOF.

Hi

I like the details and think the technique you describe is excellent for studies of insects - as seen the subject looks a little too bright to my eyes. This could easily be the rubbish monitor I am viewing it upon though

All the best
Matthew
