While I was out photographing Loons out of my canoe, I was pleasantly surprised of all of the Blue Flag Iris (Iris versicolor) that was surrounding this backwater pond. I took a few images out of the canoe with my "loon" lens. But than got serious when I got back to shore and got out the right photo equipment.

Lovely iris though the background is rather busy. Shooting around f5.6 for more selective focus could give better separation from the bg (as well as avoiding loss of sharpness to diffraction.)

Lovely flowers and beautiful colors. Besides a wider aperture, a lower shooting angle would help with the background - though it would make a very different image.

Hi

A nice habitat type shot that works well enough - I like the sharp look throughout, and the colour look good

All the best

Thanks for the comments everyone! I had many choices with many different plants and I chose this grouping because of the environment. I think your nature photography should tell a nature story and not just be a pretty picture.  I think the environment shows this beautiful MN Native Wildflower in its environment, for me the BG is what help tells the "nature story" I am trying to show!
