I was hiking the other morning and found a big pink bulb on a plant that I did not recognize.   I visited it the next morning and was pleased to see this moccasin flower, which is a native plant I had never seen before in this area.

I took quite a few exposures on a tripod, and even tried the HDR function with these, though this really wasn't necessary.   This image was the result of the blending of a few exposures in the morning light. I had some exposures that had more sharpness overall but liked the softness in this image.

Thank you for looking!

Lovely image - looks like Showy Ladyslipper to me (Cypripedium reginae), which is a great find.

Hi Tom:    Thank you for the more precise ID!!!   I had asked several plant people about this flower but the closest that I came was pink lady slipper or moccasin flower.      When I looked it up on the internet, your ID is definitely what it is.    This is a solitary plant not too far from my house.    Apparently this is quite rare in my part of Michigan.

Great find and nice photo. I always have trouble photographing slipper orchids - can never get the DOF to look right. This one looks good to me. Good exposure, too.
Cheers
