The color on BG comes from the dry bottom of a little lake in the park .This is one of  my favorite things i like to do .  Main theme in shadows  and BG with sun . Most  of  the times when i have on the canon twin macro flash i have the power in 1/8 for the Ring Flash i set  in 1/32 . Is a method of Mr Robert  O'Tool i use a lot years now and i have add few mine things in . I Friend i know he works most of the times in TTL mode with the same (main theme in shadows and BG in Sun ) but takes themes a lot closer than me , it works great for him , i should try it too , he doesnt go higher iso than 200  , Some times i have to go sun to sun there i use low iso like 100-200 . If  u know any good macro flash  allow me to know how you work , also always look for new ideas  for diffuser for canon twin macro lite .

Hi

I think the lighting technique you describe works well in many situations and does often give nicely vibrant looking colours as seen here - using flash to expose for the subject and then adjusting the ambient exposure for the backdrop can open up a lot of image lighting looks

Nice shot

All the best
Matthew

Fine image, lovely natural-looking flash light for the subject.
