A male cicada killer wasp (Sphecius speciosus), sometimes called cicada hawk, captured in flight as he patrolled his territory in search of females.

Nikon D90
handheld, manual mode, center averaged metering
105mm macro lens
ISO 400   1/200@f6.3
Three flashes placed triangularly 3' apart on the ground around a scouted portion of his territory where I expected him to make an appearance.

A very cool shot - nicely executed with that paralleling to the film plane making best use of the available DOF, and quite an incredibly low flight path - just the thing
