Leaf-footed bugs get their name from the flattened tibia of the hind leg, which gives this segment a leaf-like appearance.  The adult of this species can grow up to about 30mm long.  The very young ones can be smaller than 10 mm in size and they usually stay close together as seen in this image.  My guess is that this helps to make them look bigger from afar to scare away potential predators.  I welcome your C & C for improvement.

Hi

I don't think you are going to get many comments suggesting improvements; this looks to be a nicely accomplished image, with a good balanced looking flash usage and showing good detail throughout the frame. I like it!

Personally I would probably have opt for a composition based around the native camera format, but that's just a me thing. I really tend to stick to native formats rather than pursuing different approaches.

But regardless of that aspect this shot is extremely good imo - I like cluster of insects claiming this leaf and the composition is simple and effective

All the best
Matthew

Interesting information on the bugs and I think the leaf shows them off beautifully! They are well spaced with good detail throughout - No nits from me!

Excellent image, love the balance of light between the foreground and the backlit leaf. No quibbles on the crop from me.

Excellent lighting -- I like the shadow from the insect on the backside of the leaf.
