I have been playing around with the technique described by Steve Maxson's "A Portable Lightbox Studio for Macro" article here on NSN.

Here's a shot I got today. I have no idea what it is. I think it has six legs, so I guess that would mean it's some stage in some insect's life. Anyone have any idea?

Excellent lighting and detail - a beetle larva, perhaps?

Hi Bruce:

This is a detailed portrait that is quite nice and has a great pose. I am not sure on this but I think it is a scarab beetle larva also called a white grub. This is what I found that looks like it:

Nice work!

Hi

A fine shot of an interesting subject - if you like images of this sort try looking up product photography techniques. Lots of useful lighting ideas and the like which would all translate well into image of this nature

All the best
Matthew

Body lighting is really nice to highlight the segmentation. Nice detail.
