Another one from my September Presque Isle trips. I know some don't like dark backgrounds, but I liked this out of the many shots I had because it simplified the background when I shot into a shadowed area (tough to get a good background with the white asters). I used a combination of cloning and Topaz Remask to enhance the effect:

D7000, Sigma 150, f16 @ 1/250 ISO 200, SB-R200 with diffuser, handheld, crop.

Actually this BG makes this super sharp image pop. This doesn't look "overflashed" at all.

Love the detail - an accomplishment, because this is a hard species to catch in a still moment.

Lovely use of the flash. Micro details on the wings have come out nicely. Perch is pretty cool too.

overall a nice image ! yellow works nicelly with black !

black backgrounds can produce very nice images! the problem for me happens when a photographer only produces black backgrounds ;-)

the one thing that i personally don't like here is the high angle of view .... ( i am a bit addicted shooting at the level of the subject i guess ... ) but i do know that sometimes getting low at the level of the subject is not possible ....

fine butterfly work of yours ....

regards
