This Secretary Blenny (Acanthemblemaria maria) resides in a coral hole left behind when a tube worm dies. The worms are Christmas Tree Worms.
Reminded me of a kid at Xmas waiting for Santa.
Nikon D3s, 105 micro, Aquatica housing, Inon 240 strobes, f18, ss1/250,ISO 200. Cropped about 10% to get rid of some strobe glare in the right corner.
Best viewed on the darkened screen.

This is very cool.I'm guessing somewhere in The Caribbean.I've seen these guys peeking out but didn't know the story of them taking over a vacant tube .I was really surprised how different the invertebrate makeup of the reefs are ( least at the few I snorkeled in Maui)Very few soft corals and not a lot of tube worms etc.

Hi

A cool shot - but you can't fool me, I can see your pet parrot peaking round the xmas tree(LOL)

Seriously this is a cool image, and seriously it does look like a parrot!

All the best

Funny thing is that I used to do parrot rescue and had 8 at one time and all played under the Xmas tree.

The head of the Blenny is smaller than a pencil eraser. The Xmas Tree worms are extremely light sensitive and retract in the blink of an eye. So one shot, because they are gone and hiding after the strobe goes off.
The Blenny will dart in and out of his tube home to catch morsels of food as they float by.
