Tobacco Hornworm and friends

Not really too friendly.I had thought that these were the eggs of a parasitic wasp.Actually the wasp lays many eggs under the skin of the CP ,which hatch and then feed until they burrow through the skin and pupate in these cocoons .After hatching the wasps fly away and begin the cycle again.The caterpillars are weakened and die even though this one was happily munching away on a tomato plant when spotted

Fine behavioral image - it's amazing that the caterpillar can survive the invasion to this stage.
