This Hoverfly allowed fairly close approach with my 100mm lens.
6D, 100mm 2.8L Macro, Handheld.
1/640, f11, ISO 400

I like the excellent perch and also the background and composition are great. Fill flash might have helped smooth out the light on the fly, but its hard to think fast enough to change settings in the heat of the moment (as I know very well :)). Nice shot in any case Bill.

Very cool semi-circular composition for the thistle with thistle being in great shape. Light seems to be directional and harsh but I must say you handled it well. Hoverflies are very co-operative.
