Some details of a tree in the park across the street that was struck by lightning a few hours ago. The bark was spread all around but, the tree was mostly intact otherwise. Soon afterwards, there were people standing under it while the storm was still going on. I guess they didn't think that lightning could strike twice in the same place!

Ouch for the tree! I've seen where they have shattered.

Wow !!. Amazing power of nature --> both the create the damage and on the part of the tree to sustain it !!

The bark shows quite sharp edges; there must have been some force to literally blow pieces of the bark apart, like shrapnel. Yet the underlying trunk looks mostly intact, not exploded or burned as one might think. Nature is full of amazing phenomena... nice catch of this detail.

Amazing that the bark was blasted off but the tree wasn't burned or scarred underneath! and as for people who still think under a tree is the best place to be in a storm........words fail me!!
