About 10-14dayks after forming the chrysalis, which is totally green, a dark line appears. That line spreads it starts becoming more clear. Clear enough to see the new butterfly inside. Once it reaches this stage it is only a day, two at most, before the emergence of the butterfly - the next images I'll post.
It is very unfortunate that in the wild only 5% of the eggs laid will reach this stage. That is why Chip Taylor of the University of Kansas started .monarchwatch.org and a waystation certification program, where you can help the population, and initiated education programs to help spread the word on the plight of the Monarch.
