Wasp Mantisfly

I came across this insect yesterday.   I did not know we even had these in Michigan.   This insect had a remarkable resemblance to a wasp, until its claws came out.   

1/320 f9.0 @60mm   Gold reflector used to warm up image.

I have never heard of insect like this, let alone seeing one. Mimics Praying Mantis so nicely. Well seen and captured.

Just discovered these this year as well. I was startled by them because they look like a paper wasp and mantis hybrid lol. They have a really great disposition. Love these things. Well spotted!

They Seem to hang out on Milkweed more then any other plant. I have found them consistently on milkweed now.
