This is a future king.    In spring in many Great Lakes streams, king salmon fry emerge from the gravel and head to the edges of the rivers as the water temperatures rise in the spring.    This one is about an inch long.    These little salmon are voracious predators and quickly grow a few inches before heading to the lakes in June and July.

These are pacific salmon, with a four year life cycle.    They were introduced to this region in the late 60's. The salmon fry provide food for other fish, birds, animals, and predatory insects.

This fish is in the wild in a small stream that feeds a large river.

Hi

A cool shot of this little fellow – how you get this close to them is beyond me, but the view is excellent

All the best
