Managed to track down some early blooms before the snow and below freezing temps hit this morning.

Canon 60D camera
Sigma 150/F2.8 macro
2 Images shot at iso 200 - F16 for the blossoms and F5.6 for the background
blended in Photoshop Elements.

Nice looking image of this stunning blooms – I was going to say the DOF aspects look a little strange until I read your descriptions (laughing) A clever idea and I think it works
