Hi all

Another image of a woodland butterfly – probably a habitat that will have to dominate my images nowadays due to complete over (read bad imo) management of my favoured coastal sites. Basically even though preaching to the public about leaving wildflower areas alone to encourage bees, butterflies and insects in general, Kent wildlife and the environmental agency for the second year running has decided to mow down the only real strip of wildflower meadow along our Saxon shore way – with the easily predicted result of habitat loss and insect populations plummeting due to lack of native nectar plants. An area that in previous years saw a true and in this country rare abundance of insects like burnets and blue butterflies is now becoming yet another sterile environment like the rest of our rural landscape. Is it me? I am just getting older and grumpier, or are our land management organisations just tidying our surrounds into a sterile uniformed plan.

Anyway sorry for my soap boxing – and hope you like the image

My best to you all
Matthew

Super picture, Matthew. Sorry to hear about your troubles: can the local Butterfly Conservation branch do anything to help?

Excellent image - sorry to read about the land management troubles.
Insects and plant diversity come far down on the list of things to preserve in the habitat, but so much of what we love in nature depends on invertebrates and the plants they depend on.

Lovely image Matthew. Great technique as always

Sorry to hear of the loss of environment. Stay outraged and focus your energies on organizing others to complain

A beautiful clear image- With fine detail , delicate colors and a pleasant BG- I'm sorry about the enviromental problems around your area, on my side the situation is even worse: the wise roman administration wants to use the countryside near my home (that's full now of six-legged creatures) as a new landfill for the garbage of Rome, and we are fighting hard against that decision- Best wishes, Fabio

A lovely image once again Matthew, the delicate flower spike is the perfect perch for this beauty!

I feel for you Matthew, wildflower meadows are few and far between, all we seem to have in the immediate vicinity after all that rain are areas of wildly tangled and very long grass - a mix of wildflowers would be far more useful!
