Folks:

Have any of you who own or use Epson 4880 printers ever had to have
service performed on them?  If so, what has your experience been and
what is the cost of this service?

Twice in the last 24 hours I have had a message on the LCD of my 4880 that
service is  required.  To me this is something above and beyond routine nozzle
checks, and cleanings that I have done in the past.

Thank you for any information that you can provide!

Best Regards,

Roman :-)

Roman,

This may not be applicable in your case, but if you have had a power failure, the printer will usually post a service required message. Concerned me the first time I saw it, but it was apparent the power had been off, so I just turned off the printer and then on again, and it reset. I don't remember what the code is that posts. I have a 4800.

I have a 4880, and have never had a need for Epson to service it. It's impossible to say what the cost could be without knowing the issue, of course. Is there a specific error or service code given with the message on the LCD?

Hi Royce and JGunning:

There was no service code given with the error message on the LCD. At this point, the error message has not recurred; so JGunning's assessment may be correct. When the error message occurred, I did, in fact, turn the power off and disconnect the printer from a power outlet. It may very well be that that course of action reset whatever needed to be reset.

Many thanks for your thoughts and input.

Very Best Regards,

Roman :-)

Yeah, I too freaked out when I got my first error message on my 4880! Since the first one I got (maybe 2010) I think I have had the same error message again about 3-4 times, and all I do is shut the printer off and restart and the problem goes away for what amounts to about a year before I get it again. I don't even worry about it anymore, just reset and print! (knock on wood!)

Hi Mark:

Thank you for the follow-up and advisement of your experience. My Epson 4880 has been pretty much bullet-proof to date; and when I saw the error message for the first time it definitely worried me. But thanks to the initial comments from Royce Howland and JGunning and the recent advisement from you, the "problem" appears to have been solved.

Very Best Regards & Thanks To All Posters,

Roman :-)
