We had 2 nights in Grand Teton NP just over a month ago, our 3rd visit there from Australia, and I had 2 great sunrises. The first one was at OxBow Bend, and then the next morning when it wasn't looking too promising, the sky fired up with some spectacular colour opposite to the sunrise (though the sunrise was pretty good, too!). This is from the Jackson Lake Bridge looking towards Mt Moran - certainly one to remember!

It always pays to look behind. In certain conditions the sky to the west may be more spectacular than the sunrise itself, although it sounds like that wasn't the case this time. Lovely color in those clouds.

Wild clouds and colors.
Best viewed against a dark b/g.
