Cracked clay from an ancient lake bed surfaces in several places between the dunes at Mesquite Flat in Death Valley. Combined with the vegetation free sand it gives a very good impression of how dry this place is.

A great photograph is absorbed by the eyes and stored in the heart.

A great perspective to get the most from a simple scene Jens. The dry clay leads the eye nicely and the clever use of the bg shadows adds so much!

Very nice Jens, I think I have the exact same piece of cracked earth in my files. Makes a great contrast with the softness of the dunes.

I like the low angle and the inclusion of the distant background and gives the image a strong feeling of place. I always seemed  to be in a hury when I stubled on to one of these features and strugled to get a nice overall image. You did well on this one.
