Cascade Mountains, British Columbia, Canada

Hi everyone,

Here's one from a beautiful location, high in the Cascade Mountains, that I was fortunate enough to explore for a few days this past autumn. You can just barely make out my little green tent in the bottom right corner.

As the internet becomes increasingly-saturated (so to speak) with over-the-top landscape photos with heavy-handed processing, I find that I'm becoming more and more drawn to these subtler scenes. As the stormy skies broke up on this afternoon, some really nice dappled light hit these alpine larch trees during the height of their fall colour.

Best of luck,

Great light and a great moment captured well. I like this with the sky cropped just above the mountains, this way the sky and mountains aren't competing and the mountains have a better sense of dominance in the frame.

Very nice. I tend to agree with your point of view - landscapes should be calming rather than heart-racing! The colours and contrasts here are lovely.

Really nice, Jess. You've allowed the larches to stand on their own by letting the remaining scene be so wrapped in shadow. I love that. The comp is excellent. I like the hint of windblown ripples lit by sunlight down on the tarn. Nice!
