A simple photo of Bird Island at Harris Beach State Park.  Canon EOS 5D III, EF 24-105 @ 32, f/20, 1/8, ISO 100.

This is an interesting image. I think it illustrates well when photographers use elements that aren't really connected in space, to create a visual connection between them. I think you've done well, especially the way the driftwood points to the right side island. I would suggest perhaps going black and white in this one; as is it feels quite literal, and I feel BW would allow you to work the contrast and mood a touch more aggressively to abstract the scene a little more and make it a touch more mysterious.

Of course, that is just how I see it!!

Your caption identifies the island as the subject, and initially I really liked how the driftwood points to it. But the longer I look at the image, the more the driftwood starts to become the subject. Mainly because it's more in focus than the island. Despite this conflict, I still think its a great image.
A great photograph is absorbed by the eyes and stored in the heart.

Interesting composition -- I might be tempted to reduce contrast just a trifle to benefit the foreground. b

Agree with what Jens has said.
In addition, I think it needs some slight CCW rotation

Nice Shot It look a tad tilted to the right. I am not sure weather it is the angle of the sand.
